- Clinical Tips - How To Leak Test Your Breathing Systems
In today's video, Courtney, our Clinical Educator, will be showing you how to leak test the anaesthetic machine and common breathing systems you have in practice. If there are any cracks or leaks in the pipelines, connections, tubing or reservoir bag, they will need to be repaired or replaced.
An anaesthetic machine and breathing system that is functioning correctly allows the safe delivery of anaesthetic gases to the patient and additionally ensures the safety of theatre personnel.
Leak testing of the anaesthetic machine and breathing systems is part of the Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists’ Anaesthetic Safety Checklist, which should be performed prior to every anaesthetic. The Anaesthetic Safety Checklist can be downloaded here: https://ava.eu.com/resources/checklists/
